My name is Jake Dudson, I am currently a student at Leeds City College. Studying Mobile Games and App Development. My current plan is to go into University to enhance my knowledge upon my desired subject; Games Programming and Development.

This here is my portfolio of all my work produced during my time doing this course. Enjoy!!

Personal Statement

Ever since I was in Year 6 I have wanted to become a Games Developer. This was because I watched developer updates on how they created their games and levels within them. As I became interested in Games Development I started playing around with engines. I ended up making Pong and Space Invaders. Then eventually my own maze game. Although simple, for an 11 year old boy I was impressed with myself.

When I arrived at Leeds West Academy I grew more confident and started to work well with others. I then went on to star in Bugsy Malone and then became part of the tech crew in the next play (Into the Woods). At LWA there were many group projects to take part in. I took part in a construction project, to build a dome, where around twenty people worked collaboratively as a team.

As a result of such extra curricular activities I became someone who can work well as part of a team as well as an independent learner and my grades shot up. Throughout my final year at Leeds West Academy I had achieved 100% attendance and punctuality.

During my work experience at Shelby's Auctioneers I met a multitude of people ranging from different cultures, wealth and age. As I interacted with new and old customers I began to grow more confident in meeting new people and was able to have a full conversation without hesitation which strengthened my communication skills. Whilst I was there I was asked to answer the phones multiple times. I would talk to the customers over the phone and face to face and deal with their request with ease. At the end of the placement I was offered a part-time job in which I spent the next year in.

In preparation of going into University I studied Level 3 Games Development at Leeds City College. In this course I have learned various different aspects of the development of games. From designing my own small games to designing websites. Two subjects I am particularly fond of is website development and event driven programming. This is because I like the scripting the sites and finding new ways to implement new ideas and objects. I will always challenge myself to make sure I get the code right. This course also has other subjects included. One of them is Computer Systems where you will learn about the hardware and software of the PCs you use everyday. Another subject is Information Systems in which you would learn about how companies would process their data. One last one is animation with Adobe Animate where we would use the shockwave feature to animate small videos. I am applying for this university course as I wish to extend my studies in subjects I am passionate about.

In the future the three main areas I would like to work in are; games programming, website development and database design. I want this more than anything and will make sure I achieve this through hard work and dedication. I would welcome the opportunity to pursue a career in my chosen field, having enjoyment whilst I work.
